Understanding the self & community
People have sought to understand the relationship between the self and community for centuries. We will explore well-supported theories and applied research practices in sustaining wellness for the self and community. Facilitated discussions regarding complex and sensitive topics such as respect, communication, and balancing work and wellness are often included when exploring these areas of focus.
identifying bias in the body
Bias and judgement are experiences we all have but don't always know how to recognize. Identifying bias in the brain is important but so is identifying bias in the body. We developed a mind-body meditation practice that safely incorporates the experience of bias as a learning tool for participants to use in letting go of bias and judgement. We like to say the only way you can become authentically stronger is if you face and work with your weaknesses.
STrategies & PRactice communicating across communities
Communication is one of the biggest challenges in relationships, sometimes especially when you are speaking the same language! The truth is although we may use the same words, they mean different things to each of us. The meaning we place in the words, things and life around us is mediated by a multitude of variables, all of which are rooted in our understandings of self. We explore what communication is, the cultural nature of emotional expression, and your group's specific communication goals. We enjoy facilitating new communication ideas and practices during the workshop because it allows us to see clients enacting the research.
developing personalized wellness plans & Practices
Wellness is not a simple concept and is not practiced in the same way by everyone. We also tend to work on areas of wellness at a time, rather than wellness as a whole, which is composed of between 8 - 12 different components depending on which researchers you ask. We learn about wellness as it applies to different parts of our lives and then spend time in guided self-reflection identifying what you want to work on in the next quarter year. Wellness resources including journaling, meditation and questions for further self-discovery are also provided.
